ANGELS vs. DEMONS
19, 20 & 21 December 2014
“In the entire circle of the year there are no days as delightful as those of a fine December morning, when the trees are bare to the mild heavens, the red leaves bestrew the road, and you can feel the breath of winter whispering to you that God created everything good because God, in his Holiness, cannot create something sinful. Yet we have the Winter Evening settling down with smell of steaks in passageways and at the corner of the road you find a lonely cab horse stamping upon the withered leaves. With every single minute, the darkness grows stronger and stronger, but for the lightening of the lamps. How often have we seen the West Wind-the breath of Autumn’s being; driving away the withered leaves like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing, where each but lies like a corpse waiting to embrace the dark wintry bed. Yet, the same preserves life when called the Azure Sister of Spring where yellow and black and pale and hectic red are replaced by living hues, marking the beginning of life.” with these words in her welcome speech did Sabiha Mahmood, an Angel or perhaps a Devil from our college triggered the spirit of Umang’14.
The illustrious Kolkata’s Inter-College fest rolled its wings on the 19-20-21 December 2014 with the theme ANGELS vs. DEMONS, bigger and grander than last year. With more than forty events covering every possible area of student interest. And talking about excitement, the host of the event was none other than R.J. Rio who proudly labels The Bhawanipur College as his Alma Mater.
At the inaugural, the Governing Body of the College, along with Chief Guest for the day Dr. Kusum Khemani were invited to light the ceremonial lamp. Dr. Khemani gave her views on how she felt as she saw a sea of students striving for a common goal. The crowd was mesmerized by the inaugural classical dance performed by the students at the host college, unveiling Umang 2014. 3-days of true extravaganza gleaming the spirits of the youth recreating the magic once again and setting in new records of vibrant celebration.
Breath-taking performance by the Agnee Band on the 3rd day of jamboree gave a successful epilogue to the Angel vs Demons soirée. Organising members of Umang were called upon and praised for their perseverance. The star performers of Umang 2014 were awarded, along with BESC bagging the 1st prize yet again which was rolled over to the first runner-up St. Xaviers College, followed by JDBI (B.Com) and JDBI (BBA).
The strength begot from the flames of the ceremonial lamp not once flickered since its inception and we hope throughout the ages will the spirit of Umang carry On.
As Behind every Angel is a devastating Demon and behind every Demon is a promising Angel. The choice is Ours.
